Everything is ready to welcome the 250 signed-up riders and the hundred people involved in the organization.
After months of work for the organizers, the 2 dies de Trial Clàssic de Sant Julià de Lòria are one step away from the start of the final part of this work, which is obviously the beginning of the competition in the environment prepared for it. From Friday (28th June), all the plans that have been on paper for such a long time will come to life in the Plaça de la Germandat in Sant Julià de Lòria.
One of the people behind the idea of getting a classic motorbike competition to Andorra, Xavier Crespo, explained as follows how the idea for this project came to be: The main reason is, without any shadow of a doubt, the passion for this sport. To compete, side by side with our colleagues, in these type of races made us think that this was possible in Andorra. This was the seed for the first edition of the event, the one from 2018. We encountered some unexpected situations, which we were able to solve as we went and we managed to end up with an event very much appreciated by most of the participants.
In other words, the outcome of the first edition was positive for the organizing team and that was the main reason to keep going: For sure, we received congratulations from a lot of riders and a lot of very flattering comments such as for example that it was a ‘monster’ of a race or even the race of races. Some people even forecasted that we would have to put up the ‘complete’ sign soon after opening the signing-up period, they were completely right in their prediction. Xavier also added: Some riders mentioned that we should make it easier for the less experienced participants. To this comment we had to answer that we couldn’t really do much since the orography of Andorra doesn’t allow us any wiggle room.
Obviously with these premises, the second edition had to come to fruition: The truth is, we had to. We started working in September last year and bit by bit the second edition came together, until this moment when the rushing around and the nerves of the last moments have settled in, although I think there’s no way around it. The list of participants, originally limited to 200 riders, was filled in very quickly. We increased it to 250 participants, which also filled in, but we had to say that that we could not go over that.
Regarding the possibility to make this event count for an international championship, Xavier Crespo and his colleagues from the organizing committee have very clear ideas: From the beginning our aim when organizing this event was that the passionate of the classic trial motorbikes would be able to enjoy their bikes and the scenery of Andorra, in the same way we can usually do it. Counting for a championship? We haven’t really thought about it, but seeing the interest we have, especially having to increase the list of participants, we are very happy if the riders who decide to come to Sant Julià enjoy the race and themselves, as we said.
Organizing an event of this level can’t be easy and surely there are some difficulties: There’s no way around it. For example, even though it’s a not-for-profit activity and we try to self-finance, help from sponsors would be appreciated, it would allow us to provide some nice details for the people who visit us. As for the customs procedures, we have been able to solve them with the help of the riders, who are coming to race, and the institutions. It is important to remember that some of the motorbikes which will be racing don’t have documentation.
SCHEDULE: Friday (28th June), between 5 pm and 9 pm the riders will sign-in in the lobby of the Cultural Centre in Sant Julià. Once all the paperwork is sorted, the riders will take their bikes to the parc fermé, where they will be given their participant number. From this very moment, they won’t be able to touch the bikes until the start of the race. Saturday (29th June), from 8:30 am the first participants will start the race (2 riders every 1.5’). The order hasn’t been decided yet. The route will be 25 km long, with 20 areas to overcome in maximum 8 hours. At about 6 pm there will be a raffle for the participants. Sunday (30th June), the beginning of the competition will also take place at 8:30 am, with the same start structure. In this case, there will be 19 areas to get through. When all the participants will have crossed the finish line, there will be the trophy ceremony, when the winners of the different categories will receive their prize.
Thus, the second edition of the 2 dies de Trial Classic are about to take their final exam. The organizers feel happy with the work done.
