Today (Jan. 18th) at noon, the registration for the Font Blanca 2017 was closed. This competition is going to be held at Vallnord’s facilities and will be the starting point of the Ski Mountain World Cup in 2017 and also the second event for the XV Andorra Cup of the specialty.
The entry list is highlighted by the presence of the Senior Men’s podium in 2016, both in the individual and the Vertical races. Killian Jornet will be present on the andorran tracks, defending last year’s victories obtained ahead of Michele Boscacci (ITA) and Werner Marti (SUI) in the individual and Remi Bonnet (SUI) and Michele Boscacci (ITA) in the Vertical. All four competitors have confirmed their participation in the FB17 in addition to other renowned skiers like Marc Pinsach (ESP), Bob Mardion (FRA) or Anton Palzer (GER). The Andorran delegation is going to be led by the FAM team, Joan and David Albós, Xavier Areny and Jordi Solé who will all be on the starting line.
Among senior women, Laetitia Roux (FRA), world champion in 2016, will also be present and is expected to improve on the previous edition of the FB where she was not at the expected level because she was still recovering from injury. In addition, the last year winners of the respective specialties, Emelie Forsberg (SWE) in the individual race and Laura Orgué (ESP) in the Vertical race, will fight to retain their titles in front of the aforementioned Roux and competitors from the likes of Claudia Galicia (ESP) or Jennifer Fiechtter (FRA). In this category, Sofia Dusautoir and Maria Fargues will be the local competitors at FB17.
In total, there will be 255 registered athletes for the highest level skimo event that takes place in Andorra. Undoubtedly the Andorra Cup has the largest enrollment with well-known participants from other sports specialties such as the MotoGP rider, Aleix Espargaró.
The pre-competition activity will focus fans attention from Friday, which will be dedicated to normal events before any competition, such as the collection of numbers and others events that are less usual such as the 2016 World Cup’s awards ceremony (17.00).
Activity on the slopes will begin Saturday (Jan. 21st) from 9:30am at Vallnord-Arcalis, with the start of the individual races which will then be followed on Sunday (Jan. 22th) from 7:30pm at Vallnord- Pal Arinsal with the dispute of Font Blanca 2017’s Vertical Race.
It is noteworthy that, right now, the conditions of the venues are exceptional for both participants and fans who would like to follow live the fight between the best skimo specialists in the world.
