Vanina Guerillot wins again and is on the way to be crowned queen of the Borrufa Trophy 2016

The Portuguese skier is, after the three first days of the competition, the great revelation of the Borrufa Trophy 2016. She was second on the first day, but after that she is only been on the highest step of the podium of the U14F category.
On this third day of the competition, amongst the youngest skiers, Benjamin Hoareau (U14M) and the already mentioned Vanina Guerillot (U14F) managed to win both the Combined event and the Supergiant slalom (SG). The battle in the category of the U16 was won by Emilia Huatamaki (FI), which finally gave a victory to 2015’s winning team, and by Nicola Moretti, whilst it was Maria Michelotti (ITA) and Ben Richards (NZL) who claimed the top spot of the SG podium.

Once again, a sunny day and pleasant temperatures at the ski resort of Vallnord Ordino-Arcalís. Nonetheless, it is worth pointing out that in the morning, when the competition was about to start, the volunteers mentioned how it really felt cold on the slopes.
The snow, in perfect conditions, was the best ally for the competitors especially on the very fast tracks of the special slalom, which they had to overcome.

Category U16: Amongst the girls, Huatamaki had a spectacular performance on the Special slalom (SL) of the Combined event, which allowed her not to take more risks than necessary on the SG. Nonetheless, in the latter, only Italian skier Michelotti managed to be faster than her.
Begino and Moretti were the skiers to follow on the boys Combined event. The Argentinian competitor managed to get ahead in the SL, however the Italian skier was surprisingly brilliant in the SG. At the end, 0”08 in favour of Moretti which placed him on the top spot of the final ranking of the Combined event.
The victory on the SG of the Combined event, which had a separate podium ceremony at the end of the day, was for the skier from New Zealand, for whom this was his second gold medal of the Borrufa 2016.

Category U14: The first victory for the French team was accomplished by Benjamin Hoareau. The youngster (13 years old) was the fastest in the Supergiant slalom, beating two rivals who had already climbed a podium in the Andorran trophy 2016, Blake Hartley (NZL) and Roberto Pirozzi (CHI). In the battle for the Special slalom, Hoareau was once again the fastest skier, whilst Pirozzi managed to overtake Hartley and obtained second place in the Combined event.
Vanina Guerillot (POR) maintained her great competing level clearly besting all her rivals. It is worth mentioning that the Portuguese skier with a score of 1’03”38 in the SG, would have taken fifth place in the boys ranking.
In the battle for the podium of U14F, Andorran skier, Carla Mijares, managed to get second place behind Vanina after a spectacular performance on the SL, a speciality where she was 2 hundredths of a second (0”02) faster than first day winner, Italian skier Anna Momicchioli. Up until now, the Italian competitor is the only one who has beaten the winner of the Combined event.

Tomorrow (Thursday 28th January) is when the Borrufa Trophy 2016 gets to an end. All the participants will face a heat of SG from 10am; afterwards the skiers and their teams will head to Ordino, Main Square (Plaça Major), where will take place the Closing and Awards ceremonies.
