The Font Blanca 2016 (FB’16), organized by the Andorran Mountaineering Federation (FAM), will be the first event of the Ski Mountaineering World Cup this year.
This is why, next weekend, the representatives of the ISMF (International Ski Mountaineering Federation) and all fans of this sport will keep a very close eye on the event, so as to get the first references for this season’s competition.

The FAM has gone all out to prepare the event. A few hours before the start of the activity on the snow, the logistics are ready to host a great competition. The teams, some have been in Andorra for days and others arrived a few hours ago, have all gone through the usual process of inscription and so are now ready to prove they have what it takes to be the best.

Amongst those who have been to the Ordino Auditorium to collect their accreditation, there is last year’s winner Killian Jornet, who once again will be the main rival. It is also worth mentioning Mathéo Jacquemoud, Bob Marion and Laetitia Roux, all in the French team, because they are out to prove that they can reach the same competitive level as great champion Killian Jornet.

As far as the Andorran team goes, the motivation is at its highest level to show how in a landscape very familiar to them they can be at the same level as the top competitors.
All in all, since it is the first race of the season, there are no sure things for anyone. As of now, the only references are from those who compete at a very high level, for the rest they have to be confident that they have undergone the best training possible and most of all prove it on the snow.

The landscape is perhaps the most complicated part of the event, since in this sport the weather always has the last word. Obviously, a lot of effort has been put into the preparation both by the members of the FAM and by a great number of volunteers, who are delighted to support the race.
Everybody, who has been on the tracks, hasn’t been hesitant in declaring that after the last snowfalls the condition of the snow could not be better, so people can expect to witness a great event. According to all forecasts, the cold is going to be by the competitors, the organizers and the general audience.

The event is on next weekend (16th and 17th January) in Vallnord.
