Finland wins the Borrufa Trophy 2015 in front of Andorra and France.

Rives (FRA) and Rodríguez (AND) in U14 and Matulka (POL) and Korpio (FIN) in U16 obtained the most medals.

Xander Vercammen (BEL) and Nella Korpio (FIN), amongst the U16, and Louis Rives (FRA) and Kiara Derks (NED), for the youngest skiers, were the winners of the Special Slalom (SL), which was the last race of the sports schedule of the Borrufa Trophy 2015. The event took place this week (26th-29th January) on the ski slopes of Vallnord Ordino-Arcalís. It is obvious for those that knew the event’s programme that the organisers decided to change the original schedule and have two heats of a special slalom (SL) instead of one single heat of the Super Giant (SG). The change was effective for both categories.

The change forecasted for the weather conditions arrived a bit later than expected, which meant that the final day of the Borrufa 2015 progressed normally until the end of the second heat of U14. From then on, the scene took a turn for the worst: the wind started blowing and the sky got covered with threatening clouds. The expected change in the weather conditions had arrived.

In the U16 category, Xander Vercammen (BEL) finally obtained the victory he had been looking for during the three previous days. This time the Belgian skier got a time under 40” in each heat, clearly beating his closest competitors. The South-American skiers that had had the most success in this year’s Borrufa, Begino (ARG) and Alborghetti (BRA), fought with all their might for the second place.
For the last event of the Andorran trophy, Nella Korpio (FIN) did not want surprises, so she imposed a very fast pace on the first heat with an excellent time (39”63), beating by more than 1” her closest rival Candelaria Moreno (AND). Moreno herself also established a considerable difference (1”10), which almost certainly put her on the final podium. The second heat did not alter in any way the top five places of the provisional ranking.

Amongst the boys of the U14 category, Louis Rives was the clear winner of the SL: he was the fastest in both heats and the only competitor who managed to finish the slalom in less than 40”. The second place was foŕ Xavier Cornella (AND), who was able to find himself a spot amongst the French skiers, three of whom were in the top 5.
Kiara Derks (NED) and Xènia Rodríguez (AND) were once again the best amongst the girls of this category. This time the Dutch skier was first followed, 1” behind, by Rodríguez, who in keep with her excellent results in the last days of the Borrufa 2015 obtained another silver medal. The fight for the third place was very close between Yuna Van Puyvelde (BEL) and Magdalena Luczak (POL) who finished the SL only 7 hundredths of a second apart.

The final ranking for the countries competing in the 23rd edition of the Borrufa Trophy was topped by Finland (491 points) followed by Andorra 1 (355 points) and France 1 (242 points). The other two spots on the Top 5 were for Spain 1 (195 points) and Belgium 1 (191 points). The ranking included 35 teams of 29 different nationalities.

The organisers of the Borrufa Trophy finished the 2015 edition of their international ski competition for children (FIS Children) amongst the praise of all the teams that had competed. They have already started thinking about the Borrufa 2016.
