The Borrufa Trophy 2015 determined by the excellent results of the teams from Finland.

The first day of the competition in the 23rd Borrufa Trophy was determined by the results of the Finnish skiers, who obtained the gold in the Giant slalom of the U14 M category, Henry Hahthela, and the gold and silver in the Special slalom in the U16 F category, Korpio and Larilahti. On the podium, there were also two well known skiers in the Andorran trophy, namely the Argentinian, Juan C. Begino, winner of the boys Special slalom U16 and the Dutch, Kiara Derks, winner of the girls Giant slalom.
The event, which took place on the slopes of Vallnord Ordino- Arcalís, had 230 participants of 30 different nationalities.

For the Borrufa Trophy 2015, it was cold, snowy and windy at the top of the mountains, but the conditions were a bit better on the ski slopes where the participants had to race. According to the skiers that were in charge of opening the trail, the start was on fresh snow and as the skiers went down the path, it became more compact.

In the U16 category, amongst the boys, besides Begino’s excellent win, it is worth mentioning the skier from Belgium Xander Vercammen, who was closest to the Argentinian. The fight for the third place was also very tight since three skiers were only 2 tenths of a second a part.
As far as the girls are concerned, the Finnish Nella Korpio had no match amongst her rivals. The fight was for the other two spots on the podium and it was between Larilahti (FIN), Krahelski (GBR), Arnabat (AND) and Vilalta (ESP).

Amongst the youngest participants, U14, Hahtela had complete control over the boys Giant slalom, whilst Derks had a bit more trouble to get away from the French Vaucelle and the Andorran Xènia Rodríguez. It was, in fact, Xènia who said at the end of the first day: My first heat was too conservative; on the second I gave my all and I managed to get a spot on the podium. I’m very pleased, especially with my second heat. I’ll still try to improve my results.

Another person, who was also very pleased with the results obtained today by his skiers, was the Finnish team’s trainer Danko Marinelli: The results obtained today by our skiers were absolutely excellent. Hopefully, we will keep this up for the rest of the days on the Andorran slopes.

Tomorrow (27th) the events will occur the other way around: the category U16 will compete on the Giant slalom and the U14 on the Special slalom.

Press service.
