The Italian team, with a clearly improving performance, wins the Borrufa Trophy 2016

Italian skiers, Lucca Benetton and Benedetta Marrai, amongst U16, and Nicolas Pirozzi (CHI) and Anna Momicchioli (ITA), U14, were the winners of the Supergiant slalom (SG) which closed the competition of the Borrufa 2016. No need to say that the last day of the competition was all about the Italian skiers; three competitors of this nationality and Pirozzi, who trains in this country, obtained the last gold medals of the trophy.

On the final countries ranking of the 24th Borrufa Trophy, Italy 1 (390 points) was first followed by Spain 1 (258 points) and the United Kingdom (249 points). The Top 5 was completed by Belgium 1 (216 points) and New Zealand (207 points). A total of 37 teams of 30 different nationalities appeared in this ranking.

On this edition of the Andorran trophy, the weather was excellent as far as skiing goes at the ski resort of Vallnord Ordino-Arcalís. The snow was in perfect conditions and the temperature was cold at the start of the events at high altitude and kept improving as the day went by.

Category U16: Lucca Benetton (ITA) surprised the winner of the SG of the previous day, Ben Richards (NZL). The Italian skier, who up until today had a 5th place on Tuesday’s SG as his best result, gave it his all and managed a spectacular performance. He was 0”45 ahead of Richards, whilst in third place was Estonian skier, Laine Tormis, more than a second behind.
Another member of the Italian team, Benedetta Marrai, took her chance to write her name at the top of the ranking of the Borrufa Trophy. Michelotti (ITA) and Hautamaki (FIN), who were expected to win, did not have a good day on the slopes. The fight was then between the Italian skier and the Spaniard Carmela Olmo, with the victory finally going to Marrai only 0”15 ahead.
The surprise in this category was Romanian skier, Lea Trifu, who obtained the fourth place and managed for the first time to place this nationality on the Top 5 of the Borrufa 2016.

Category U14: Nicolas Pirozzi (CHI) and Bejamin Hoareau (FRA) were once again the skiers to follow on the SG of this category. If yesterday the French skier took the win with an advantage of 0”23, this time it was the Chilean competitor who was 2 hundredth of a second (0”02) faster and claimed the top spot of the podium. The third place was for Belgian skier Guido Wurges, who was almost half a second slower than the winner. It is important to mention that in this final SG the French team had three of its members on the Top 5.
Italian skier Anna Momicchioli, winner on the first day, finished her performance in Andorra climbing to the top of the SG podium. This time Vanina Guerillot was not able to cross the finish line. The Italian competitor left her closest rivals more than one second behind.

The final event of the Borrufa 2016 took place on the Main Square (Plaça Major) of Ordino. All the skiers and their teams, who have been competing for the last for days in Arcalís, met right in the town center of Ordino to enjoy the final party. The message that was mostly heard was that they were looking forward to coming back the following year in order to improve their performances.
